Can you take Mounjaro while pregnant?
It is not recommended to take Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) while pregnant. At this time there is insufficient human data on its safety during pregnancy and there is animal data that suggests it can cause harm to the fetus. If Mounjaro is prescribed for management of type 2 diabetes, it is important to discuss alternative medications with your doctor to help control blood sugar levels during pregnancy. If you are planning on becoming pregnant, it is generally recommended to stop Mounjaro for approximately 2 months prior to conception. Finally, Mounjaro may reduce the effectiveness of oral birth control medications (oral contraceptives), so patients should either switch to a different contraception method or use a barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and 4 weeks after each dose increase with the drug.
