Can you take metformin and Ozempic together?
Yes, Metformin and Ozempic® can be taken together as there are no drug-drug interactions. Both medications are used for treatment of type 2 diabetes, and some patients may require multiple medications to lower their blood sugar levels. These medications have a lower risk for causing hypoglycemia (below normal blood sugar) as opposed to other diabetes medications. Because both medications can cause side effects such as nausea, stomach upset and loose stools, your medical provider may choose to start one medication at a time instead of both at once. If you have questions about whether you should be taking these medications in combination or are experiencing side effects while taking them, please discuss this with your medical provider.
