How do you get Mounjaro (tirzepatide) prescribed?
Getting a prescription for Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) is not a matter of simply filling out a questionnaire. The decision to start a medication should be undertaken after careful review of your medical history with a qualified medical provider, a discussion of the potential side effects and careful weighing of the risks and benefits. Mounjaro is FDA-approved for treatment of type 2 diabetes as it has been shown to lower hemoglobin A1c. Another effect of Mounjaro is weight loss, which is why doctors may prescribe Mounjaro in combination with healthy nutrition and increased physical activity to patients without diabetes (considered off-label use) when it is medically appropriate. More recently, tirzepatide has been FDA-approved for weight loss treatment under the brand name Zepbound®. It is important to speak with your healthcare provider to determine which medication may be the best fit for you.
Keep in mind that coverage and costs vary based on your specific insurance plan. To learn more about your exact costs for Mounjaro or other medications, contact your insurance company using the phone number on the back of your insurance card.
Some people choose to get compounded semaglutide medication instead of the brand name medication like Mounjaro. Although they are often available at a lower cost, it’s important to know that these compounded weight loss medications come with real risks. The molecule has not been tested in clinical trials and approved by the FDA for safety and efficacy. Additionally, compounding facilities may not be FDA monitored and there is a risk of contaminants and patient dosing errors. Form is dedicated to providing quality evidence-based medical weight loss care. The National Obesity Medicine Association recently published an extensive position statement advising against using compounded peptides that also highlights the risk to individuals. Form Health is aligned with the Obesity Medicine Association’s position. We do not prescribe compounded medication.
