How much weight can you lose on Zepbound (tirzepatide)?
The amount of weight a person can lose when taking Zepbound® depends on a variety of factors. Keep in mind that Zepbound is FDA-approved for individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher or 27 or higher with a weight related medical condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. and is to be used in combination with a low calorie nutrition plan and increased physical activity. In a clinical trial, participants taking the highest dose of Zepbound (15 mg) lost an average of ~22% of their starting body weight on the medication, which was the equivalent of approximately 50 lbs. That being said, individual responses to the medication will vary. Typically, when starting a weight loss medication we look for at least 5% weight loss after 3 months on the medication. If a person has not reached that benchmark, it’s less likely that this is an effective medication and alternative treatment options should be considered. If you are taking Zepbound and struggling to lose weight, please discuss this with your medical provider.
