Orlistat vs Saxenda®: Can you take Orlistat and Saxenda together?

There are no known drug interactions between Orlistat and Saxenda®. However, Orlistat can interact with other drugs, such as certain immunosuppressant medications and warfarin (Coumadin®), as well as impair the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K). Orlistat is a medication that is FDA-approved for weight loss and is available over-the-counter as Alli® and by prescription as Xenical®. Orlistat works by blocking the absorption of dietary fat from foods thereby reducing calorie intake to facilitate weight loss. In certain situations, combinations of weight loss medications – like taking  Orlistat and Saxenda together – might be recommended by your doctor. Deciding whether or not to start a new medication (even if sold over-the-counter) should be discussed with your doctor. In addition to other medications, be mindful of what foods you consume while you’re taking Saxenda, too.
